Kasumigaseki bows to pressure- allows women to become full members

Following growing criticism, not least from Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, Kasumigaseki Country Club voted to allow women to become full members of the club.

The venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic golf tournament was warned by the International Committee (IOC) that they would loose the rights for the tournament unless changed their rules regarding female members. “We made quite clear that there has to be gender equality,” Coates told Reuters. “If they can’t achieve the gender equality then we have to get another course, but the organisers are very confident that they will.”

The membership committee now extend full membership to women and allow them to play on Sundays, which until March 2017 was not allowed.
