PING PLD Milled Putters Premium Putter Range Launches Today In Japan

PING launched the Putting Lab Design or PLD program today, muscling into the high-end putter market. PING claim to give golfers unprecedented access to precision-milled putters and tour-level fitting experiences through a new website dedicated to advancing PING’s reputation as the leader in putter design and customization. 

John K. Solheim, PING president said: "We established the PLD name several years ago as an extension of the PING Putting Lab, where we’ve been fitting some of the top players in the world for more than 20 years,” said Solheim. “Until now, access to the master fitters who deliver these custom putter experiences has been limited to the best players in the game. We can now bring golfers what they’ve been asking for either through a virtual or in-person experience.”

The four putter models on offer are the Anser and Anser 2, and DS 72 and Prime Tyne 4.

This fitting experience is not available in Japan currently, however, PING Japan will sell these 4 premium models, albeit 'off-the-shelf'  with the only customization available being shaft length (31" - 36").

All models cost ¥66,000 and are available at all of the large retailers and directly from PING stores nationwide.

In 2020, the US Golf Association (USGA) and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) made several changes to the rules of golf.

One major change was to the "drop procedure" when a ball is lost or out of bounds. Players are now allowed to drop the ball from shoulder height, rather than knee height, making the process more consistent and less prone to mistakes. Another change was to the rule regarding penalty strokes. Players will no longer be penalized for accidentally moving a ball on the green, such as when marking or lifting it.

Additionally, players are now allowed to repair almost any damage to the course, such as spike marks on the green. The changes also include simplifying the rules for bunkers, allowing players to touch or move loose impediments...
