Russell Henley Claims Victory at The Arnold Palmer Invitational with Clutch Finish

Russell Henley delivered a composed and clinical performance at Bay Hill Golf Club, securing his fifth career PGA TOUR title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by Mastercard. His steady final-round 70 brought him to 11-under-par (277), edging out Collin Morikawa by a single stroke in a thrilling finish.

Henley’s Defining Moment

At 35 years old, Henley’s latest triumph marked his first victory in 47 TOUR starts dating back to the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship. His round was highlighted by a spectacular chip-in eagle on the par-5 16th, a crucial moment that set him apart from the chasing field. He became just the second player since 1983 to eagle the 16th in the final round en route to victory, following Marc Leishman’s feat in 2017.

Henley’s consistency around the greens proved pivotal, as he led the field in Strokes Gained: Around the Green (6.382). The win moved him from No. 17 to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings and No. 14 to No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR)—his highest career ranking.

Close Contenders

Collin Morikawa (2nd, -10) came agonizingly close to victory, marking his 11th career runner-up finish and fourth since the start of the 2024 season—the most of any player on TOUR. This was his second runner-up finish of the season, following The Sentry.

Corey Conners (3rd, -9) was the only player to post a bogey-free final round, carding a steady 71 (1 birdie, 17 pars). His result secured him a spot in The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush through the Open Qualifying Series.

Rising star Michael Kim (4th, -8) continued his strong form, securing a third top-10 finish this season after earning his place in the field via the Aon Next 10 pathway.

Notable Performances & Highlights

  • Keegan Bradley (T5, -7) matched his career-low round at Bay Hill with a blistering 64 in the third round, featuring a front-nine 29—the lowest since 1983.
  • Sepp Straka (T5, -7) reclaimed the top spot in the FedExCup standings with his third top-10 finish of the season.
  • Jason Day (T8, -5) and Byeong Hun An (T8, -5) led the charge for the Asia-Pacific contingent, each securing a strong top-10 finish.
  • Hideki Matsuyama (T22, E) fought back with a closing 69 after a tough third round, while Adam Scott (T36, +3) rounded out the notable Aussies in the field.

Challenging Bay Hill Conditions

With mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching 86°F, players faced firm greens and swirling WSW winds (10-15 mph), adding to Bay Hill’s usual challenges. Strategic ball striking and short-game precision were key throughout the tournament.

Henley’s Resurgence & Looking Ahead

This win not only marked a milestone in Henley’s career but also signified his resurgence on TOUR. His four top-10 finishes in six starts this season are the most of any player, proving he is in top form as the season progresses.

As the TOUR heads into its next stretch of marquee events, Henley’s victory at Bay Hill sets the stage for an exciting race for the FedExCup and further cementation of his place among the game’s elite.
